The handicapped parking situation is tricky. I know of some DTR merchants who really do lose business b/c of people who park there all day long — and who shouldn’t be. Like anything, a few folks abusing the system hurt everyone.
Per the WRAL story …
A WRAL News crew spotted a woman in high heels leaving a parked car with a placard. She said she got it when she was in a car accident, and it remains valid until November 2009.
“If I need to be there for longer than two hours, I think I should be able to use my tag,” said the woman, who declined to give her name.
An unidentified man tossed a placard on his dashboard after parking downtown and walked to the Wake County Courthouse. More than eight hours later, he returned to his truck but declined to comment on his use of the placard. …
That’s just horrible, and I admire the volunteers (some whom are disabled) who are trying to make sure people are doing this fairly. I wouldn’t think of them as being “pricks.” Just my $0.02 worth.

Okay you’re right. I actually do oppose the misuse of handicap placards. My only defense was I found a parking ticket this morning from a few weeks ago.
Thanks for calling me out

Now that just stinks! Not calling you out: I think looking at the article from the surface, it does look like folks are being used as “tattle tales.”
